My Doll Houses
I started to build doll houses, when just a kid, using cardboard, tape and glue and my fascination for minis has never waived. Having a doll house of my own wasn't exactly the easiest thing to accomplish when one lives in a tiny apartment, or even a small home, and somehow room boxes just weren't quite satisfying enough for this hobbyist.
I was already painting furniture and I thought how sweet it would be to turn some of the furniture pieces into doll houses. I let the piece of furniture dictate the style of house, as each piece speaks to me in its own way. Now I can't look at any piece of furniture without seeing its doll house potential.
I try to build everything by hand, using only some purchased items like windows and lighting. I decided to use battery operated lights rather than wiring the houses as the wiring interferes with the integrity of the original piece of furniture, which I try to maintain. I also find it far easier to move lights, add lights and change light bulbs when necessary. I try to give the large doll house experience in a smaller more compact design. Many of my houses, like those made from end tables can still be used as furniture. Most pieces can be moved easily by one person, which helps when you live in a smaller house or apartment.
I sell at local shows here in Ontario and cannot at this time ship the doll houses. If you are interested in purchasing a dollhouse, if you reside in southern Ontario I am sure I can make arrangements for delivery. My fireplaces which I also sell, can be mailed safely, anywhere.
I hope that you will enjoy the journey through this site and maybe it will peak your interest in this tiny exquisite art form.
Please contact me at whimsikatz@gmail.com for any questions and pricing.
Thank you!
